About this place
Take a seat at Hanmonten in Nishi-Koiwa, and a colourful array of banchan side dishes quickly fills the table. Whether you stop by on your own or gather with a group, these handmade appetizers arrive generously, setting a warm, hospitable tone for the meal. Run by friendly matriarchs, the dining room has a relaxed, unpretentious air where guests can settle in for hearty Korean home cooking.
A great place to start is the samgyeopsal pork belly, grilled to a crisp, fragrant finish by the staff. Savoring the browned pork alongside the varied sides provides immediate satisfaction. For something heartier, combine the meat with a vegetable-laden yukgaejang soup or a rich beef tripe and intestine hot pot, both offering deep, nourishing broths. With shared appetizers like omasum sashimi and thick seafood jeon pancakes arriving in substantial portions, the menu lends itself naturally to convivial group dinners.
Midday diners will also find lunch-only sets, including sundubu jjigae or doenjang jjigae accompanied by grilled fish, as well as refreshing mul-naengmyeon and spicy bibim-naengmyeon. Open from 11:30 to 23:30, the restaurant comfortably accommodates everything from quick daytime meals to evening gatherings over beer, wine, and bubbling hot pots.
